the location

Bassendean (Bassendeen | Bassendeene) is a stunning area of bushland that features steep rocky outcrops that plunge down into the Moredun Creek that runs through these sacred lands.

Before this area was known as Bassendean it was called Nimula, which means ‘place where it happened’.

relics found

These lands contain numerous signs of the Nucoorilma peoples' ancestors. Such cultural markers can be identified easily if you know what to look for.

behind the scenes

Wayne shares some of the more interesting experiences which took place whilst filming out on country where this historic battle took place.

A word of caution  when you retrace the footsteps of your ancestors,  be sure to tread carefully.

SOURCE MATERIAL

For years now Wayne has pursued his peoples histories through documented archives as well as verbal tellings shared with him through his relatives and members of his community. With this knowledge Wayne along with his gift for reading First Nation markers has been able to pinpoint where this battle between the Nabi river people and Bundarra people took place.
